Westland's Compulsory Teams and Synchro Team competed at the ISI World Recreational Team Championships in Chicago placing first, fifth and fourth.

Westland Sports Arena was renamed "The Mike Modano Ice Arena" at a dedication ceremony July 20. There was plenty of special seating for FIGURE SKATERS. Note that the Free Press article has an error. The date was JULY 20, not June 20.
